History

The Gothenburg Horse Show was held for the first time in 1977, and since then over 3 million people have visited the event at Scandinavium in Gothenburg. The very first World Cup Final in showjumping was held in 1979, and subsequently became a recurring event.

Ever since the event was created in 1977, the Gothenburg Horse Show has attracted the world's best horses and riders in showjumping and, more recently, dressage. Ahead of the 2019 World Cup finals in both showjumping and dressage, the GHS Hall of Fame was created to pay tribute to those who have had a significant impact on the event.

• Every horse has their own concentrated feed brought with them.
• 1500 bales of shavings are used during the week.
• We save the footing from the arena every year. When there is not a show the footing is stored until next years show.
• Every year we build 30 different obstacle courses for every round in the classes during the show.
• The volunteers eat two cooked meals a day. During a week we serve over 3000 rations of food.
• The flowers arrive already on Saturday the week before the show starts.
• The fences consist of more than a thousand different parts.
• It is always Göteborgs Hundungdom, the young handlers that show in the Agility number.
• The ice is left beneath the footing in the arena.
• The day before the competition starts, all participating horses are shown for horse inspection in front of the vets.
• Some of the volunteers already start working on Friday the week before the show starts.
• We use more than 150 ribbons during the week.
